Making Pom Poms *sigh*

I love pom poms!
They make everything cuter and are so versatile!

But,
I hate making pom poms.
Well the part I actually hate is the fact that no matter
what way I make them, there are still
strands that can be pulled out!

I feel like I will forever be trying to find a way
to make a yarn pom pom where the strands can't
be easily pulled out, but I'm losing hope.

I did try a new method of making a pom pom
which you can find here
to sit atop this chunky beanie (coming soon!)

Hudson's Hooded Jacket

My nephew was born on the
13th of April and knowing there
was a little boy on the way,
I wanted to make him some cute things!

Here is the hooded jacket I crocheted for him

I just love the buttons and the way grey looks with the blue, tan and white striped sleeves and hood.

Pattern is from Newborn Knots
but I have altered the pattern quite a bit.

My Ravelry project page details my alterations

Polymer Clay Necklaces

To go with my niece's beanie's
that I made them for Christmas
I wanted to make them necklaces with polymer clay.

There are numerous websites and you tube videos
of how to use polymer clay
and these necklaces were the very first things
I made with the clay, to see how they would turn out.

This blue necklace is for Isabella to match her Elsa/Frozen inspired beanie.
Using only blue and white I could get 3 colours
(I could get many more variations of blue by mixing more or less white, but I only wanted 5 beads)

The pink necklace is for Scarlett
and I have used only Pink and White again to get
the 3 colours

In this close up you can see the imperfect bead shapes
and even my fingerprints on the beads.

I will be buying some additional materials
to assist me with making perfectly shaped beads
without fingerprints as I have fallen in love with polymer clay
and have so many ideas in my head.

On you tube, I found a video for a sliding knot and used this
to close the necklaces as I didn't want traditional clasps
and the waxed cotton wouldn't hold a simple knot.

The sliding knot allows the necklace to be as loose or as tight
as the girls like it to be.
I used Fabric Wash and Wear Glue to strengthen the knots too.

Crochet Braided Headwrap

[Finally some crochet!]

I have been wanting to make this headwrap
for quite some time and when one of my
sisters asked if I would make her one
I knew this was the one to make.

I found the pattern on Love City Blog
and also on Ravelry.

There is a link to an iKnits video
that is Very helpful when it comes
to the braiding part.

I did struggle with the braiding part
but once I got it - it looked fantastic!

For this one I used Moda Vera Marvel 12 ply in white with a 5.5mm hook.
I chained 235 and crochet 6 rows of single crochet stitches.

I've already got a few more
colours in the works because they
look so awesome!

Chunky Newborn Beanies

On the 18th Of April
at 11.30pm
My niece Scarlett Jo was born.

As she was only a tiny 5 pound 10 ounces or 2.5kg
it was hard to find beanies that fit her
and that were also warm.

So I made her some to keep her little head nice and warm
